Hi my name is Emma and I farm with my family in Grasmere, The Lake District. We have Herdwick sheep, Aberdeen Angus cows, Wellsummer chickens, Saxony ducks, Sheepdogs and a farm cat. Herdwick sheep are a hardy breed, our flock live on the fells above Grasmere in the Lake District. Rumoured to have been brought here with the Vikings, this breed of sheep has two coats like a wild sheep; a woolly waistcoat for warmth and a hairy overcoat that protects them from the wind and rain. The soft wool they produce in their first year is a beautiful warm brown with grey hues. We have it washed and carded into batts which I find perfect for needle felting.
